Content Policy

Spurt is a tool for writing fiction for adult readers. Dark themes, violence and explicit content between adults are allowed, within the rules below.

Sexual content

Sexual content between adults is allowed, within these rules:

• Every character in a sexual or sexualised scene is clearly an adult (18 or over), and nothing suggests otherwise: no school settings, childlike descriptions, ages under 18, or 'teen' wording in a sexual context.
• All sexual activity is fully consensual between people able to consent: no rape, coercion, blackmail or threats into sex, and no sex with anyone drunk, drugged, asleep, unconscious or otherwise unable to consent, including aphrodisiacs, magic or mind control that takes consent away.
• No sexual activity between blood relatives (parents and children, siblings, grandparents, aunts or uncles with nieces or nephews, first cousins).
• No sexual activity involving animals.

Non-consensual, abusive or taboo events can still exist in the story as plot (mentioned, implied, or shown through their aftermath and consequences), but they are never depicted sexually, erotically or in on-page sexual detail. Violence, horror, cruelty and other dark themes that don't involve sex are not affected by these rules.

Never allowed

• Any sexual content involving minors, or anything that sexualises them, under any circumstances. Accounts that try to create it are closed and may be reported to the authorities.
• Content about real, identifiable people in sexual situations, or meant to harass, threaten or defame them.
• Using Spurt to break the law where you live.

How it's enforced

Spurt checks new writing automatically and adjusts or refuses content that breaks these rules. Breaking them on purpose can lead to your account being closed. Report a problem: support@spurtwriter.com.
